Looking Back, Looking Forward

Picture1.jpg

I created these wheel thrown pieces and bisque fired them about six years ago.  A few days go, I blew the dust off of these pieces and finally glazed them.  Now they are safely packed away and en route to the kiln, on the final leg of their journey to being vessels that can be useful and appreciated.

It’s never too late to do the right thing.  It’s never too late to pick up that dropped project and begin anew.  These cups and bowls represent “sankofa” in my artistic process.  Sankofa is an African principle, pictured below, that tells us, “Go back and pick up what you’ve left behind.”

2010 was very good - a retreat, great new arty friends, shows, a conference, and much more.  However there are things that I need to pick up and carry with me into 2011.  The momentum.  This blog.  Neglected sketches. Dropped projects.  A new year is a good reason start anew, take inventory, set goals, go back and fetch it, and move forward.
